Sole Proprietorship or Enterprise registration suits first-time business owners, freelancers who want to trade legally, or small traders not yet ready for the more complex Sdn Bhd structure. It's simpler, cheaper, and faster to register than a Sdn Bhd.
If your business is growing and you're considering converting to a Sdn Bhd, read our guide first: Sole Proprietorship vs Sdn Bhd: Which Should You Choose?
The official SSM registration fee for a Sole Proprietor/Enterprise is typically around RM30 per year (personal name registration) or RM60 per year (trade name registration) — please check the current rate on the SSM portal. This is the government fee only; SASCO's service fee is separate. Contact us for a quote on our full service.
Both are sole-ownership structures under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956. "Sole Proprietor" usually refers to registration under your own personal name, while "Enterprise" refers to registration under a separate trade name.
Approval is usually same-day or next-day once complete documents are submitted to SSM.
It depends on your liability exposure, business scale, and growth plans. Read What Is a Sdn Bhd? or contact us for advice specific to your business.
